is seeking a Finance Officer to join its team of dedicated staff.

To be responsible for efficient and effective financial systems and management information and contribute to continuous improvements of all service areas.

The Post-Holder will be expected to:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  •  Prepare monthly reconciliations and control accounts e.g. bank reconciliations etc
  • Preparation of Financial Management Information (income and expenditure account and balance sheet) for presentation to Board.
  •  Yearend preparation and working with Auditors to produce yearend accounts
  • Preparation of budgets and monitoring of budget variances on a regular basis and reporting to Finance Committee and Board 
  • Process standing orders, benefits, payroll deductions and other daily transactions 
  • Prepare statutory financial and legal returns including returns to the FCA and PRA 
  • Financial administration in line with SMCCU policies, Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and Board requirements.  
  • Ensure grant claims are prepared and submitted to deadlines as required. 
  • Ensure lending policies and procedures are kept up to date and within the appropriate legal frameworks.

 

 

  • Work within SMCCU values, ethos and vision 
  • Occasional attendance at Board meeting  
  • Contribute to the development of SMCCU

  • Identify and attend relevant training as required  
  • Work in accordance with all relevant legislation  
  • Undergo regular supervision and annual appraisal  
  • Undergo a CRB check as required  
  • Able to produce and present financial reports to Board and Committees

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The post-holder will be based at SMCCU’s Head Office, but will be expected to undertake travel across SMCCU area of interest on a regular basis. Employment will be based upon a 37 hour working week, normally within office hours, although occasional attendance at evening and weekend meetings will be required.

Experience and Skills

Preparation of management accounts

 

Proven experience of recording accounting transactions and maintaining accounting records

 

Experience of bank and project reconciliations

 

Budgeting and forecasting

 

A relevant accountancy e.g. AAT minimum L3 qualified or equivalent

 

Experience of ensuring that financial procedures are adhered to

Experience of producing management accounts and other analysis

 

Experience of financial and management accounts preparation

 

Experience of working for a Charity or Not for profit organisation

 

Knowledge and Skills

Excellent computer skills for financial monitoring, evaluation and reporting

 

Working to targets and meeting deadlines

 

IT literate including experience in using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

 

Ability to analyse and manipulate data and recognise trends

 

Excellent attention to detail

Experience in report writing

 

Able to analyse and interrogate financial information and identify and report on trends and variances
