In order to assist working age households on low incomes, Welsh Government has introduced a Winter Fuel Support Scheme. It allows eligible households to claim a one-off £100 payment from their local council to provide support towards paying their winter fuel bills. The payment will be available to all eligible households regardless of whether you pay for your fuel on a pre-payment meter, by direct debit or by paying a bill quarterly.

Blaenau Gwent Council will be contacting residents who may be eligible for the payment, to invite an application to be made.

Anyone who is not contacted who believes they are eligible for the payment, can also submit a claim from 13 December 2021 until midnight on 18 February 2022 on the Blaenau Gwent website – www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk

Anyone who is unable to access the website can visit the Community Hubs, Community Hubs opening times, or  telephone 01495 311556, for assistance.

Eligibility

You will be eligible if you (or your partner) are in receipt of one of the qualifying working age-means tested benefits below at any time between 1st December 2021 and 31 January 2022.:

  • Income Support, or
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, or
  • Income Related Employment & Support Allowance, or
  • Universal Credit, or
  • Working Tax Credits

You must also be responsible for paying your fuel bills to your energy provider for your property in Wales and this property is considered your primary residence. This condition is not satisfied if you  (or your  partner) pay for your  fuel off grid, i.e oil, Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) or coal.

If you require further financial assistance with off grid fuel costs you can apply to the Discretionary Assistance Fund for help.
