*Smart Money Cymru needs a new board member*
The Board of Smart Money Cymru Credit Union needs to recruit a new director with expertise in finance.
The new director would join an already skilled and experienced Board of directors.
What we are looking for is someone ideally ACCA qualified, perhaps working as a finance director within a sizeable SME, charity, social enterprise, housing association or similar organisation. A partner within an accountancy practice used to working at strategic level with such clients would also be very suitable, as would someone retired but having worked at this level.
The existing directors are already quite well-versed in matters relating to finance, particularly as Smart Money Cymru is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. We also have a very capable Finance Manager who handles all the day-to-day finances of the credit union, produces detailed management reports each month and manages the annual audit with our auditors. So we are not asking for anyone to undertake any 'hands-on' accounting or forecasting work for us. Our Finance Manager can do all of that!
But Smart Money Cymru is growing and expanding. In the last few months we have merged with two smaller credit unions, restructured our operations and started to invest in our systems and IT to support new digital platforms to enhance the delivery of the credit union's services to its members. We are at a point where we need someone with high level strategic experience to advise on finance matters, particularly as they relate to the credit union's business planning, regulatory and capital requirements. The current directors already have professional expertise in areas such as HR, IT and community development. We now need to strengthen the financial expertise to improve the quality of the credit union's governance and provide expert direction to its executive management.
This is an unpaid, voluntary, non-executive role.
The commitment required would be a full board meeting each month (held in the evening, from 6pm - currently held online via Zoom) and finance committee the week before each board meeting.
What the credit union can offer is the satisfaction of working within a committed and professional Board of directors and a staff team focused on delivering growth, success and delivery of high quality financial services to the community.
