Meet the team July 2025-Mary Dadd

This month, we have met with the newest member of the Customer Advisor team, Mary. Mary joined Smart Money Cymru in June and is working hard behind the scenes getting trained up on all tasks and has already spoken to many members, either via the telephone, email or in person at one of our branches.

What drew you to Smart Money Cymru Community Bank?

It is such a different environment to my previous role in retail. I used to be a Shift Manager in a large retailer and I was expected to carry out similar duties to the shop manager which included cashing handling and banking. This aspect of the role I enjoyed and I wanted to find somewhere where I could develop my skill in finance. I missed dealing with members of the public a lot too as I love to chat people’s ear off, so Smart Money Cymru seemed a perfect fit for me.

We think you’re going to be a great fit too! What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I am not one for being on my own (except when I get to choose what’s on TV or have the bed to myself) so I love going out and about, spending time with my friends and just socialising-whether it is going out for food, cinema and shopping trips etc. I have grown up in a family sounded by live music (my late dad had a local band in Cardiff) so I enjoy going to see tribute bands with my friends as it’s a fab chance for a catch up. More so recently I’ve enjoyed going to watch the rugby in Cardiff with an old high school friend. I have also been supporting her with her ventures in doing craft fares and having stalls at Comic Con events.

I find watching a film and creating with Lego is very therapeutic and once the set has been built I love that sense of achievement. Although, at the moment I have had to put a halt building as I have now ran out of shelf space 😁.

You’ve got some fantastic hobbies there. You’ll have to share some of your SMC themed Lego creations with us! What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

My fail safe motto is “Don’t over think things”

We agree! If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I’ve never really thought about what superpower I’d like to have as to be honest, the majority of them are pretty awesome. If I had to pick just one, that would be to have armoured skin as it would protect me from many things.

That’s a good choice. What’s your favourite book, movie, or TV show, and why?

Because I really enjoy watching films, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly one specific favourite overall! There are two films that stand out more so than others; The Blues Brothers and Yellow Submarine (Beatles cartoon film). Both of these where films enjoyed by my late father (I was and always will be a Daddy’s girl through and through) when I was little and I remember to watch one of these was a treat for me on a Sunday afternoon.

We can see those movies are particularly special to you. If you could switch jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?

If I was to change jobs for a day I would like to be a Carer in a support living accommodation. I would love to provide the clients with the best possible life and experience.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to in the next year, either personally or professionally?

What I am most looking forward to next year (not including my Disney tattoo) is to make a fresh start and to make memories!
