Welcoming Tom, SMC’s newest Director and champion for youth engagement
We’re pleased to announce following the Board meeting last night, Tom Harrington, who volunteered with Smart Money Cymru over the summer, has been co-opted onto the Board of Directors.
Tom’s previous volunteering experience and locality to Powys, having grown up in Brecon before moving onto the University of Cambridge to study Law, means that his role will be dedicated to focusing on the development of services within the county and increasing the engagement of young people within Smart Money Cymru-both through membership and volunteering opportunities. This exciting appointment marks another significant step forward in our mission to grow and strengthen the Credit Union’s presence across the region.
Tom is passionate about ensuring that the Credit Union reflects the values and needs of our local communities and cannot wait to get involved in strategic decision making about local community banking. Tom, speaking of his recent appointment, said
“Becoming a Director of Smart Money Cymru at my age reflects Smart Money Cymru’s commitment to inclusivity, innovation and community-led growth. The Directors and I believe that by investing in youth engagement, particularly through growing the number of younger people using Smart Money products and services and expanding our reach in Powys, we can build a stronger, more resilient Credit Union for everyone”.
Alun Taylor expressed that
“Tom’s introduction to Smart Money Cymru during his summer volunteering placement with us led him to not only having an insight into how the community banking model worked but gained him valuable experience and skills to strengthen his education. We are looking forward to having him bring a different perspective to board discussions”
Please join us in welcoming Tom. We look forward to the energy, passion and leadership he brings.
