Meet the Community Account-Aberdare Market Tenants Association

This month I’m speaking with Amanda Webber and Diane Nicke of the Aberdare Market Tenants Association, and they run the Community Hub based in Aberdare Market.

Tell us about Aberdare Market Tenants Association, Community Hub and your involvement.

We are Aberdare Market Tenants Association and we run a Community Hub in the market, which is where Smart Money Cymru Community Bank is based.

My name is Amanda Webber and myself and Diane Nicke run the Community Hub - organising volunteers/inviting outside agencies to set up pop up information stalls, booking workshops and facilitating events in and around the Market Quarter.

Why choose Smart Money Cymru Community Bank?

As a tenants association we wanted to open a separate bank account for the Community Hub so that we can organise our funds and fundraise to provide events and resources for our community. We have a lovely relationship with Eleri who runs the pop up at the market and we are more than happy to support Smart Money Cymru.

 What are the benefits for your group, do you think?

We are always busy and find very little time to source bank accounts and actually do the day-to-day banking activities. Smart Money Cymru perfectly suits us as a community venture.

With no external shareholders and a focus on cooperative working - how important is the ethical aspect of SMC?

Extremely important, so that we can benefit our community whilst SMC are providing a benefit for the whole community!

 What about the online banking aspect and 24/7 access to your account – is that an important consideration for your group?

24-hour online, access is very important as we are very often tied to our businesses throughout the day.

 Finally, Aberdare Market Tenants Association joined us almost a year ago, how easy was setting up?

Setting up was easy as we had assistance from Eleri in her pop-up session in the market. Everything was extremely well explained and set up was quick too.
